Update on Recycling Pilot

In September 2009 Strathkinness became part of a new recycling pilot that saw food waste collected in the brown bin alongside garden waste.  As a result, the recycling rate from the kerbside has increased to 47%.

However, a slightly different pilot operating in Markinch has managed to achieve an impressive 71% recycling rate from the kerbside.

In order to see if this success can be replicated elsewhere, residents in Strathkinness, Leuchars and Guardbridge will change over to the same system as the Markinch pilot.

Information packs explaining the new system along with a new calendar will start to be delivered in the area from the 22
nd February.  An information evening will also take place on 3rd March in the Strathkinness village hall starting at 7pm.  This is expected to last for 40 minutes.

Full information will be provided within the guide but an outline of the information is provided below:

New Bin - Green bin – Plastics and cans

No Change - Brown bin – Food and garden waste

Change – Grey bin – Paper and Cardboard
