SILVER GILT AWARD FOR STRATHKINNESS.

The efforts of the Floral Display Group members were richly rewarded when the village won a Silver Gilt Award in the small village section of the Beautiful Fife 2011 Competition. Strathkinness was one of only 6 entrants through out Fife who managed to win an upgrade in the campaign.  The judges praised the efforts of the group in improving the appearance of the village both in summer and winter and were greatly impressed by the work being done by the school children in the School Gardening Club. Many thanks are due to all who helped with the planting and the maintenance of the displays.

Group members, Hugh and Brenda Lawrie, Bob and Liz Billson, Anne Mudie, Iain Duncan,  Alex. Harris and Spence Waddell have been working for over a year clearing and preparing a site for a community garden and orchard in Bonfield Road. They have made significant progress, tree planting will take place later this autumn , 4 allotments have already been allocated and the remaining 4 plots are now available for anyone who wishes to participate in the project. The plots which are approximately 8 metres by 5 metres are ready for digging and planting and could be sub-divided if necessary. Subject to funding availability it is hoped to have a polytunnel  erected during the winter.  Anyone interested in  finding out more about the garden should contact Iain Duncan on 850649
